Title: Louisiana Housing and Land Trust

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that creates the Louisiana Housing and Land Trust (LHLT). The bill allows for grants or appropriations from any United States agency or the state of Louisiana to be provided to the LHLT and states the primary responsibility of the LHLT is to provide “economic stabilization and redevelopment” to areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina or Rita. Other LHLT responsibilities include: referring residential property owners to Housing Resource Centers for counseling on finances and housing issues, providing loans to home and property owners who cannot afford to pay mortgage loans, and acquiring property titles and compensating owners if the owner does not wish to rehabilitate their property or if property rehabilitation is “not feasible because of safety, flood control or environmental restoration concerns.” The bill also stipulates that the LHLT will terminate on June 30, 2016.
