Title: Repeal on the Number of Charter Schools Allowed

    • Take any actions regarding renewals, nonrenewals, and revocation of charters; and
    • Prepare an annual report to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee of the General Assembly.
  • Authorizes a board of education to convert a school to a charter school if the local board of education serves as the board of directors of the charter school, whereas existing law required the board to form a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation before converting a school to a charter school (Sec. 2).
  • Prohibits the Commission from restricting the number of students a charter school may enroll (Sec. 2).
  • Repeals the requirement of charter schools to provide busing or any other mode of transportation to any particular student (Sec. 2).
  • Authorizes charter schools to use funds allocated by the State Board of Education or the county to acquire equipment, property, buildings, and mobile classroom units for use as school facilities (Sec. 2).
