Vote to pass a bill that requires a physician who uses RU-486 (mifepristone) to induce an abortion to administer the drug in person, effective August 1, 2012.
Highlights:
- Requires a physician who uses RU-486 (mifepristone) or any other drug or chemical to induce an abortion to either administer the drug in person or be physically present in the same room with the patient while the drug is being administered (Sec. 1).
- Requires the physician who induced the abortion to make all “reasonable” efforts to ensure that the patient returns within 12-18 days for a follow-up appointment to confirm that the pregnancy has been terminated and to assess the patient’s medical condition (Sec. 1).
- Specifies that anyone who attempts to perform an abortion in violation of the provisions of this bill shall be guilty of a felony (Sec. 1).
