Title: Amends Estate Tax Laws

Vote to pass a bill that amends estate tax laws.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes an individual to exclude the following amounts from the calculation of his or her estate value for the Maryland estate tax (Sec. 1):
    • $1 million if the decedent died before January 1, 2015;
    • $1.5 million if the decedent died on or after January 1, 2015 but before January 1, 2016;
    • $2 million if the decedent died on or after January 1, 2016 but before January 1, 2017;
    • $3 million if the decedent died on or after January 1, 2017 but before January 1, 2018; and
    • $4 million if the decedent died on or after January 1, 2018 but before January 1, 2019.
  • Authorizes an individual to exclude the same amount of estate value allowed by the Internal Revenue Code when he or she calculates the Maryland estate tax if the decedent died on or after January 1, 2019 (Sec. 1).
