Title: Reduces the Frequency of Teacher Evaluations

Vote to pass a bill that reduces the frequency in which most teacher evaluations must occur.
Highlights:
Prohibits a teacher from being annually evaluated under the following conditions (Sec. 1):
If the teacher has obtained an evaluation rating of “highly effective” he or she will be evaluated not more than once every 4 years; and
If the teacher has obtained an evaluation rating of “effective” he or she will be evaluated not more than once every 3 years.
Requires a teacher who has changed certification to be evaluated in the following year (Sec. 1).
Requires annual evaluations of a teacher during his or her first 3 years in a district (Sec. 1).
Authorizes the Department of Education to modify the teacher evaluation system unless the modifications “jeopardize” current funding from the Race to the Top grant received by the state (Sec. 1).
