Title: Amends Legislative Initiative Measure Laws

Vote to pass a bill that amends legislative initiative measure laws.
Highlights:
- Authorizes the proponents of a legislative initiative measure, as a result of negotiations conducted to secure legislative approval, to withdraw the measure after filing the petition with the appropriate elections official at any time before the Secretary of State certifies that the measure has qualified for the ballot (Secs. 2 & 14).
- Requires “appropriate” legislative committees to hold joint public hearings on the subject of the proposed initiative upon collection, by the Secretary, of 25 percent of the number of signatures needed to qualify the initiative for the ballot (Sec. 10).
- Expands the list of information required to be published on an Internet Web site by the Secretary to include certain information including, but not limited to, the following information (Sec. 12):
- Updated information about the sources of contributions towards the initiative;
- A list of each committee “primarily” formed to support or oppose the initiative, and a means to access information about the sources of contributions reported for each committee; and
- If the committee receives at least $1 million for an election, a list of the committee’s top 10 contributors.
