Vote to pass a bill that establishes an interstate compact to call for a constitutional amendment that requires a balanced federal budget.

Highlights:

• Authorizes the State of Mississippi to join the Interstate Compact for a Balanced Federal Budget which includes the following provisions (Sec. 1):

• Requires the legislature of each Member State to call Congress to a convention for the sole purpose of rejecting or proposing for ratification the Balanced Budget Amendment;

• Requires Congress to refer the Balanced Budget Amendment to the Member States for ratification by three-fourths of their respective legislatures;

• Requires each state represented at the convention to have 1 vote, exercised by the state’s delegate or by the majority vote of that state’s respective delegates; and

• Prohibits from exceeding its total authorized debt unless a measure to increase the amount is approved by a simple majority of the legislatures of the Member States.
