Title: Prohibits Wage Deductions for State Employee Union Dues

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits state employees from having a portion of their wages automatically deducted for labor union fees, effective September 1, 2015.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits the state or a political agency of the state from deducting dues or membership fees from an individual’s wages to a labor union unless the individual belongs to a “covered employee of a state agency” (Sec. 5). 
  • Defines a “covered employee of a state agency” as an individual who is employed in either of the following positions (Sec. 3):
    • A professional state law enforcement or firefighting capacity; or
    • An emergency medical services capacity.
