Vote to pass a bill that authorizes an individual to claim prizes and awards in a fantasy sports contest.

Highlights:

• Authorizes an individual to participate in a fantasy or simulation sports contest with the following conditions (Sec. 1):
• Participants are informed of the prizes and awards before the contest;
• The value of the awards is not determined by the number of participants; and
• The value of the awards is not determined by the fees paid by participants.

• Prohibits the winning outcome of a fantasy sports contest from being determined by the following measures (Sec. 1):
• The score, point spread, or performance of an actual team or combination of teams; or
• The performance of an “athlete” in a single actual sporting event.

• Specifies that “athlete” does not include an individual who participates in an interscholastic contest sponsored by an organization approved by the Department of Education (Sec. 1).

• Requires the Department of Inspections and Appeals to conduct a study on the impact of the provisions of this bill after July 1, 2016 and to report the findings to the General Assembly by December 1, 2016 (Sec. 2).
