Vote to pass a bill that amends the classification of criminal offenses for the death of a viable fetus.

Highlights:

• Classifies the act of causing the death of a “viable fetus” as a homicide, including the following criminal offenses (Sec. 2):
• First and second degree murder;
• Manslaughter;
• Negligent homicide; and
• Causing or aiding suicide.

• Defines “viable fetus” as a fetus that is implanted in a female uterus and has reached the stage in which it is capable of sustained survival outside of the uterus (Sec. 2).

• Exempts certain acts from the provisions of this bill, including, but not limited to, the following acts (Sec. 2):
• An act committed by a pregnant woman;
• An act committed at the request, direction, or for the benefit of a pregnant woman; or
• An act performed by a medical professional in the course of his or her duties, including, but not limited to, an act that terminates a pregnancy.
