Title: Requires Employers to Provide Paid Sick Leave

Vote to pass a bill that requires an employer to provide paid sick leave to employees, effective January 1, 2017.
Highlights:
Requires an employer that employs at least 15 employees to provide an employee with paid sick leave at the same rate that the employee normally earns (Sec. 1).
Specifies that paid sick leave accrues at a rate of at least 1 hour for every 30 hours worked (Sec. 1).
Requires an employer that employs up to 14 employees to provide an employee with unpaid earned sick leave (Sec. 1).
Specifies that an employer is not required to authorize an employee to perform the following actions (Sec. 1):
Earn more than 56 hours of paid sick leave in a year;
Use more than 80 hours of paid sick leave in a year;
Accrue more than 80 hours of paid sick leave at any time; or
Use paid sick leave during the first 90 days or 480 hours worked, whichever is shorter.
Exempts the following individuals from the provisions of this bill (Sec. 1):
An employee under 18 years old;
An employee in the agricultural sector;
An employee who regularly works less than 8 hours a week; and
An employee in the construction industry who is covered by a collective agreement that waives paid sick leave.
