Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that increases the speed limit on state highways to 70 miles per hour.

Highlights:

  • Establishes the following speed limits, except where special hazards exist (Sec. 1):

    • 65 mph where the roadway is paved;

    • 55 mph where the roadway is unpaved; and

    • 70 mph on state highways, excluding interstate highways.

  • Establishes a fine of $5 for each mile per hour in excess of the speed limit, up to $25 (Sec. 1).

  • Establishes a fine of $25 and an additional $3 fine per mile for every mile per hour above the speed limit for individuals traveling above 75 miles per hour (Sec. 1).

  • Establishes an additional fine of $300 for any individual exceeding the posted speed limit by 6 miles per hour while operating a vehicle that weighs over 39,000 lbs (Sec. 1). 

  • Prohibits the state from assessing court costs for an individual who exceeds the speed limit by up to 5 mph (Sec. 1).
