Vote to pass a bill to authorize residents to apply for buyouts for homes found to be uninhabitable due to contamination, effective immediately.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes a homeowner to submit an application to the Department of Natural Resources to sell their home to the state if such home is either (Sec. A):
    • Determined to be uninhabitable due to contamination for which the homeowner is not responsible; or
    • Located within 3 miles of any area in which the United States Geological Survey for the United States Environmental Protection Agency determines that the presence of combined dissolved radium exceeds the maximum contaminant level.
  • Specifies that applications from homeowners who have not received past remediation for their contaminated homes from or on behalf of any private or government entity will be given priority (Sec. A).
  • Establishes the Missouri Contaminated Home Acquisition Program Fund and specifies that its sole use is the purchase of homes determined to be uninhabitable due to contamination (Sec. A).
