Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that changes policies and procedures related to the inspection of amusement park rides.

Highlights:

  • Requires all amusement park rides to be issued a permit from the state in order to operate (Sec. 1).

  • Establishes permitting fees in the following amounts (Sec. 1):

    • $75 or $100 for permanent rides contingent upon ride class;

    • $30 for temporary rides; and

    • $10 for rides owned and operated by a municipality or nonprofit.

  • Requires patrons or the legal guardians of patrons under the age of 18 to report any sustained injuries to amusement park owners in writing before leaving the grounds of the amusement park (Sec. 3).

  • Specifies that the failure of a patron’s legal guardian to report an injury shall not affect the ability of such patron to bring civil action (Sec. 3).

  • Requires amusement park owners to post prominent signage at the point of admission and at least two other places around the park informing patrons of their duty to report injuries sustained on rides (Sec. 3).

  • Requires amusement park rides to be shut down and preserved for an investigation within 24 of a report of a serious injury (Sec. 3).

  • Requires that owners of amusement rides perform daily inspections of such rides in addition to the yearly inspection performed by a certified inspector (Sec. 7).
