Vote to pass a bill that amends high-school diploma eligibility standards, effective September 1, 2018.

Highlights:

  • Requires an open-enrollment charter school to establish an individual graduation committee for the purpose of determining a student’s eligibility for a high school diploma (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that to be eligible to graduate and receive a high school diploma, a student must successfully complete certain curriculum requirements specified by the state and by the provisions of this bill (Sec. 3).

  • Specifies that if a student is unable to perform satisfactorily on end-of-course assessments for Algebra I or English II, they may still graduate if they receive a proficient score on the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) diagnostic assessment for the corresponding subject (Sec. 5).
