Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that amends abortion regulations.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits physicians from prescribing or administering any drug used to induce an abortion without approval of a complication plan if the FDA label of such drug includes a clinical study in which more than 1% of the patients required surgical intervention after administering the drug (Sec. A).

  • Requires suspension of an abortion facility’s license for at least 1 year if such facility does not remedy deficiencies causing incomplete abortions (Sec. A).

  • Requires annual, unannounced, on-site inspections of abortion facilities (Sec. A).

  • Requires inspection and investigation reports to be available to the public, provided that information not subject to disclosure under the law be redacted (Sec. A).

  • Authorizes the utilization of fetal organs or tissue resulting from an abortion for law enforcement purposes or for medical or scientific studies (Sec. A).

  • Prohibits the state from enacting or enforcing any measure that requires an individual or entity to directly or indirectly participate in an abortion if such participation is contrary to the individual or entity’s religious or moral beliefs (Sec. A).

Vote to pass a bill that amends abortion regulations.

Highlights:

  • Requires facilities to submit to a patholgist a tissue sample from patients within 5 days of performing an abortion on them (Sec. A).

  • Requires pathologists to provide within 72 hours of receiving the tissue sample a copy of the tissue report to the facility that performed the abortion (Sec. A).

  • Requires pathologists to provide within 24 hours of receiving a tissue sample a notice about any evidense indicating that an abortion was incomplete (Sec. A).

  • Specifies that the attorney general has jurisdiction throughout the state to prosecute violations of abortion laws (Sec. A).  

  • Authorizes the Department of Health and Senior Services to adopt separate regulations for each abortion facility (Sec. A).

  • Requires annual inspections of abortion facilities in order to ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements (Sec. A).

  • Prohibits the state from requiring an individual to directly or indirectly participate in an abortion if such participation is contrary to an individual's religious or moral beleifs, a law which applies to activities including the following (Sec. A):

    • Real estate transactions involving an abortion facility; and

    • Providing or enrolling in health care coverage that is not otherwise required by state law.

  • Authorizes certain providers to offer alternatives to abortion without governmental interference (Sec. A).
