Title: Amends Greenhouse Gas Emissions Targets

Vote to pass a bill that amends greenhouse gas emission reductions targets.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires the state to limit emissions such that by 2025 emissions will be reduced to 19 percent below 1990 levels (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the state to make best efforts to limit emissions such that by 2025 emissions will be reduced to 21 percent below 1990 levels (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the state to limit emissions such that by 2035 emissions will be reduced to 40 percent below 1990 levels (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the state to limit emissions such that by 2050 emissions will be reduced to 80 percent below 1990 levels (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the Department of Ecology and the Department of Commerce to include in their biennial report to the governor Washington’s per capita emissions in comparison to the per capita emissions of other states, including Washington’s emissions ranking, as well as each state agency’s annual expenditures to reduce emissions (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the Department of Ecology to calculate and report the total emissions from wildfires (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the state to encourage proactive forest management as part of its emissions reduction strategy (Sec. 1).
