Title: Amends Abortion Reporting Requirements

Vote to pass a bill that requires healthcare providers to inquire and report about the reason a patient is seeking an abortion, in addition to other reporting requirement amendments.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires healthcare providers to inquire as to and include in reporting the reason a patient is seeking an abortion, including at least 1 item from a list including, but not limited to, the following options (Sec. 1):

    • Economic reasons;

    • Lack of desire for children at the time;

    • Dangers to emotional or physical health;

    • Relationship issues; or

    • No reason given.

  • Requires healthcare providers to report any known complications resulting from the abortion, including at least 1 item from a list including, but not limited to, the following options (Sec. 1):

    • Shock;

    • Uterine perforation;

    • Failed termination of pregnancy;

    • Death of patient; or

    • No complications.

  • Requires healthcare providers to report the type of admission used for the procedure, such as inpatient at a hospital, and whether anesthesia was administered to the patient or fetus (Sec. 1).

  • Requires healthcare providers who provide medical care to a patient suffering from complications due to an abortion to report the type of complication, including at least 1 item from a list including, but not limited to, the following options (Sec. 2):

    • Shock;

    • Uterine perforation;

    • Failed termination of pregnancy; or

    • Death of patient.

  • Requires healthcare providers who provide or designate an individual to provide informed consent information to a patient to report information including, but not limited to, the following (Sec. 3):

    • The number of patients to whom certain required information was provided;

    • The number of patients for whom ultrasound imaging and fetal heart tone services were provided; and

    • The number of patients for whom such information could not be provided due to a medical emergency.

  • Requires the Department of Health Services, in its statistical report, to include a breakdown by month of reasons given for seeking an abortion (Sec. 4).
