Title: Patient Right to Know Drug Prices Act

Vote to pass a bill that would prohibit insurers and prescription benefit managers from concealing lower prescription drug prices from patients.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits group health plans or health insurance issuers from restricting, directly or indirectly, any pharmacy that dispense a prescription drug to an enrollee in the plan or coverage from informing the enrollee of any differential between the erollee’s  out-of-pocket cost under the plan or coverage with respect to the acquisition of the drug and the amount an individual would pay for the drug without using any health plan or health insurance coverage (Sec. 2).

  • Requires that any entity that provides pharmacy benefits management services under a contract with any such health plan or health insurance coverage does not restrict, directly or indirectly, a pharmacy that dispenses a prescription drug from informing or penalize such pharmacy for informing and enrollee of any differential between the enrollee’s out-of-pocket cost under the plan or coverage with respect to the acquisition of the drug without using any health plan or health insurance coverage (Sec. 2).  

  • Defines ‘out-of-pocket cost’ as the amount to be paid by the enrollee under the plan or coverage, including any cost-sharing and as determined by the Secretary (Sec. 2).
