Vote to pass with amendment a bill that requires concealed carry applicants complete 8 hours of gun safety training.

Highlights:

• Requires individuals seeking to obtain a concealed carry permit successfully complete 8 hours of training prior to obtaining the permit (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that the concealed carry permit training shall not be less than 8 hours in length and shall cover the following, including, but not limited to (Sec. 1):

• Instruction on firearm safety, handling, and shooting technique;

• Live-fire shooting exercises and a firing range; and

• Laws regarding the permissible use of a firearm.

• Requires the state licensing authority to establish and make available to the public the licensing standards is uses when issuing concealed carry permits (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that for license renewal applicants, the course and training to obtain a concealed carry permit will only need to exceed 4 hours and shall meet all other permit criteria (Sec. 1).
