Title: Expands Aid For Higher Education to Undocumented Children
A vote to pass a bill that expands state aid for higher education to undocumented children.
Establishes a fund commission committed to the educational opportunities of immigrants’ children to raise funds in order to create and raise awareness about scholarships, training programs, and other educational opportunities (Sec. 1).
Requires that the commission shall be composed of 12 members that will be appointed as follows, including, but not limited to (Sec. 1):
4 members appointed by the Governor;
3 members appointed by the temporary President of the Senate;
3 members appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly; and
1 member appointed by the Minority leader of the Senate and 1 member appointed by the Minority leader of the Assembly
Requires that members of the commission shall receive no compensation for their services (Sec. 1).
Specifies aid requirements for applicants at high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels (Sec. 1).
Requires the New York Dream Fund be funded entirely by private contributions and no state funds shall be appropriated or used by the New York Dream Fund (Sec. 1).
Specifies that an individual applying to receive awards from the Dream Fund must have been a legal resident of the state of New York for at least 1 year (Sec. 1).
Specifies that any student that is not a legal resident of the state of New York but is a permanent lawful resident may have the payment of tuition, and other fees and charges reduced by state-aided programs and scholarships or other financial assistance awarded (Sec. 1).
