Vote to pass a bill that prohibits auto lenders from remotely disabling disabling a vehicle without first giving notice of the disabling to the debtor.

Highlights:

• Prohibits the remote disabling of a vehicle without first giving written notice to the debtor of the vehicle (Sec. 601).

• Requires the written notice to be mailed to the address that the debtor will be residing on the expected date of the remote disabling of the vehicle (Sec. 601).

• Requires the notice to be postmarked no later than 10 days prior to the date on which the principal creditor obtained the right to remotely disable the vehicle (Sec. 601).

• Establishes a $50 fine per subpoena towards a principal creditor that fails to maintain records in accordance with this act, reaching a maximum of $5,000 per violation (Sec. 601).

• Specifies that this act takes effect immediately (Sec. 601).
