Title: Requires Ballot Recount

A vote to pass a bill that requires a recount when the margin of victory falls below a certain rate.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires the chief election officer or county clerk to conduct a recount when the margin of victory is equal or less than 100 votes or 0.5 percent of the votes cast, whichever is greater (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that no candidate shall be charged for the cost of the mandatory recount (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that all mandatory recounts shall be completed by, and the results shall be publicly announced no more than 72 hours after the closure of polls on the election day (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the chief election officer to authorize candidates affected by the recount to attend the recount and to notify the candidates no later than one day before the date of the recount (Sec. 1).

  • Requires any complaint regarding election results to be filed no later than 4:30 pm on the 13th calendar day following the election, or the third calendar day following a recount, whichever occurs first (Sec. 3).
