Title: Requires Presidential and VP Candidates Release 5 Years of Tax Returns

Vote to pass a bill that requires both presidential and vice presidential candidates release 5 years worth of tax returns.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires all candidates for presidential nomination to do the following by 63 days before the presidential preference primary (Sec. 1):

    • Publicly release a copy of their federal income tax returns for at least the five most recent taxable years for which a return has been filed with the Internal Revenue Service; or

    • File with the Secretary of State their federal income tax returns and provide written consent to the Secretary of State, in a manner to be to be prescribed by the Secretary of State by rule, for the public disclosure of such returns.

  • Requires the Secretary of State to make federal income tax returns filed or released publicly available on the Secretary of State’s website within seven days of receipt or release (Sec. 1).

  • Prohibits a presidential candidate from appearing on the presidential preference primary ballot if a candidate does not comply with the requirements of this act (Sec. 1).
