Title: Requires Annual Fee for Electric Cars

Vote to pass a bill that requires electric car owners pay an annual fee.

  • Defines “battery electricity motor vehicle” as a motor vehicle equipped with electrical drivetrain components and not equipped with an internal combustion engine, that is propelled exclusively by one or more electrical motos using electrical energy stored in a batter or other energy storage device that can be recharged by plugging into an electrical outlet or charging station (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that the amount of each fee will be as follows (Sec. 1):

    • $65 or the period beginning January 1, 2020 and ending December 31, 2020;

    • $97.50 for the period beginning January 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 2021;

    • $130  on or after January 1, 2022.

  • Requires owners of battery-powered motorcycles or plug-in hybrid electric motor vehicle to pay an annual electric motorcycle registration fee (Sec. 2) .

  • Specifies that the amount of each motorcycle fee will be as follows (Sec. 2):

    • $4.50 for the period beginning January 1, 2020 and ending December 31, 2020;

    • $6.75 for the period beginning January 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 20201;

    • $9 on or after January 1, 2022.
