Highlights:

 

  • Amends protections given under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include sexual orientation and gender identity (Sec. 3). 

  • Defines “sexual orientation” as homosexuality, heterosexuality, or bisexuality (Sec. 1101). 

  • Defines “gender identity” as the gender-related identity, appearance, mannerisms, or other gender-related characteristics of an individual, regardless of the individual’s designated appearance at birth (Sec. 1101). 

  • Prohibits discriminatory practice against those experiencing pregnancy, childbirth, or a related medical condition (Sec. 1101). 

  • Prohibits individuals from being denied access to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room, or a dressing room, that is in accordance with the individual’s gender identity (Sec. 1101).
