Title: Amends Fines and Sentences for Conceal Carry Violations

Vote to pass a bill that amends fines and sentences for conceal carry violations.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits a person from carrying a pistol concealed on or about their person in a vehicle operated or occupied by the person, except in his or her house, place of business, or on other land possessed by the person, without a license to carry the pistol (Sec. 22).

  • A person found in violation is subject to a civil fine of $330 if all of the following conditions are met (Sec. 227).

    • The person’s concealed pistol license expired no more than one year before the date of the violation;

    • The person is eligible to obtain a concealed pistol license; and

    • The violation is the person’s first violation that occurs during the one-year period.

  • If within 60 business days after a violation, a person receives a renewal license, that person is not subject to a civil fine (Sec. 227).

  • A person found in violation is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for no longer than 90 days or a fine of $500, or both, if all of the following conditions are met (Sec. 227):

    • The person’s concealed pistol license expired no more than 1 year before the date of violation;

    • The person is eligible to obtain a concealed pistol license; and

    • The violation is the person’s second or subsequent violation that occurs during a one-year period,
