Title: Establishes Definitions for Meat and Beef
Vote to pass a bill that establishes definitions for meat and beef products.
Prohibits anyone from intentionally misbranding or misrepresenting any food product as an agricultural product through any of the following activities (Sec. 1):
Affixing a label to a food product that is false or misleading;
Selling a food product under the name of an agricultural product; or
Representing a food product as an agricultural product.
Defines “agricultural product” as any beef, pork, poultry, crawfish, meat, sugar, or rice product that is edible by humans (Sec. 1).
Defines “food product” as any edible product sold or offered for retail sale that is intended for human consumption (Sec. 1).
Defines “beef” as the flesh of a domesticated bovine that is edible by humans (Sec 1).
Defines “meat” as a portion of a beef, pork, poultry, alligator, farm-raised deer, turtle, domestic rabbit, crawfish, or shrimp carcass that is edible by humans, but does not include the following (Sec. 1):
Synthetic product derived from a plant, insect, or other source; or
Cell cultured food product grown in a laboratory from animal cells.
