Highlights:

• Specifies that an individual shall be guilty of a class A misdemeanor and fine of $250 if they fail to use a gun locking device that renders the firearm incapable of being fired or a safe storage depository and leave it in a place where a child under the age of 16 or an individual prohibited from possessing a firearm due to an extreme risk protection order is likely to access (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that nothing in this act shall be deemed to affect, impair, or supersede any special or local act relating to the safe storage of rifles, shotguns, or firearms which impose additional requirements on the owner or custodian of such weapons (Sec. 2).
