A vote to pass a bill that limits the cost of insulin to $100 per 30-day supply.

Highlights:

• Requires a health insurer that provides coverage for prescription insulin drugs to limit the total amount that an insured person is required to pay for a covered prescription insulin drug, to $100 per 30-day supply of insulin, regardless of the amount or type of insulin required by the prescription (Sec. 356z.41). 

• Requires the Attorney General to investigate the pricing of prescription insulin drugs made available to Illinois consumers in order to ensure adequate consumer protections in the pricing of prescription insulin drugs (Sec. 10). 

• Defines “prescription insulin drug” as a prescription drug that contains insulin and is used to treat diabetes, but does not include an insulin drug that is administered to a patient intravenously (Sec. 356z.41).
