Vote to pass a bill that authorizes inmates with training in the Angola Hospice Program to obtain certification to provide hospice care upon release from prison.
Establishes that employment prohibition shall not apply to state-certified hospice attendants (Sec. 1).
Defines “state-certified hospice attendant” as a former inmate of a Louisiana state prison with a hospice provider license issued by the Louisiana Department of Health and will be eligible to be employed as a non-licensed person licensed to provide hospice services (Sec. 1).
Prohibits an individual convicted of a sex offense from being a state-certified hospice attendant (Sec. 1).
Requires a state-certified hospice attendant to complete the following amount of training, including (Sec. 1):
40 hours of classroom training, which shall include 16 hours of skills training;
4 hours of orientation to the clinical training site; and
40 hours of clinical training, which shall include hands-on patient or resident care.
