Vote to pass a bill that authorizes inmates with training in the Angola Hospice Program to obtain certification to provide hospice care upon release from prison.

Highlights:

• Establishes that employment prohibition shall not apply to state-certified hospice attendants (Sec. 1).

• Defines “state-certified hospice attendant” as a former inmate of a Louisiana state prison with a hospice provider license issued by the Louisiana Department of Health and will be eligible to be employed as a non-licensed person licensed to provide hospice services (Sec. 1).

• Prohibits an individual convicted of a sex offense from being a state-certified hospice attendant (Sec. 1).

• Requires a state-certified hospice attendant to complete the following amount of training, including (Sec. 1):

• 40 hours of classroom training, which shall include 16 hours of skills training;

• 4 hours of orientation to the clinical training site; and

• 40 hours of clinical training, which shall include hands-on patient or resident care.
