Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the use and application of chlorpyrifos, and establishes the Pesticide Transition Fund.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits a person from using the following, on or after December 31, 2020 (Sec. 1):

    • An insecticide that contains chlorpyrifos; or

    • Seeds that have been treated with chlorpyrifos.

  • Authorizes a person to use the following on or before June 30, 2021 (Sec. 1):

    • An insecticide that contains chlorpyrifos to treat the trunks and lower limbs of fruit trees; and

    • Snap bean seeds that may have been treated with chlorpyrifos.

  • Establishes the Pesticide Transition Fund and requires its funds only to be used to (Sec. 1):

    • Implement the work of the Pesticide Transition Task Force, including research on integrated pest management conducted by the University of Maryland to inform the deliberations of the Task Force; and 

    • Implement the state’s plan to transition away from the use of chlorpyrifos, including to provide technical assistance to farmers.
