Title: Requires Employers to Pay Employees the Same Wage Regardless of Sex

Vote to pass a bill that requires employers to pay their employees of the same job the same wage, regardless of their sex.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits an employer from paying an employee a wage at a rate less than the rate at which an employee of the opposite sex in the same estalishment is paid for equal work on a job, the performance of which requires equal skill, effort, education, experience, and responsibility, and which is performed under similar working conditions (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that exceptions to the above prohibition include a pay differential based on (Sec. 1):

    • Seniority; 

    • A merit system; 

    • A system which measures earnings by quantity or quality of production; or 

    • Any factor other than sex. 

  • Specifies that if an employee brings a claim under the Equal Pay Act of 1963, a separate action may not be maintained under this act (Sec. 1).
