Title: Authorizes Localities to Remove, Relocate, or Alter Monuments
Vote to adopt a conference report that authorizes a locality to remove, relocate, contextualize, or cover any monument or memorial for war veterans on the locality's public property.
Authorizes localities to remove, relocate, contextualize, or cover up any monument or memorial for veterans of any war or conflict on the locality’s public property (Sec. 1).
Exempts monuments or memorials located in a publicly owned cemetery (Sec. 1).
Requires a local governing body to publish a notice in a local newspaper of the intended time and date for a public hearing after which a vote will be held by the governing body on whether or not to remove, relocate, contextualize, or cover the monument or memorial (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the governing body shall have the sole authority to determine the final disposition and relocation of a monument or memorial which may be any museum, historical society, government, or military battlefield (Sec. 1).
Specifies that nothing in this act shall apply to a monument or memorial located on the property of a public institution of higher education within the city of Lexington (Sec. 3).
Authorizes the Board of Historic Resources to promulgate regulations governing the manner in which any monument or memorial may be contextualized (Sec. 4).
