Title: Expands Broadband Internet Access to Rural Areas

Vote to override a veto and pass a bill that expands broadband internet access to rural areas of Oklahoma.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires the Rural Broadband Expansion Council to conduct a study of rural broadband access in the state and divide the state into separate geographic areas based on the information it obtains regarding existing capabilities (Sec. 1).

  • Requires one member of the 14 on the Rural Broadband Expansion Council to be a representative of a wireless telecommunications provider not affiliated with an incumbent local exchange carrier in the state (Sec. 1).

  • Requires 4 of the members be appointed by the Speaker of Oklahoma’s House of Representatives and 4 members to be appointed by President Pro Tempore of the Oklahoma State Senate (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the Rural Broadband Expansion Council to submit an annual report not later than January 31 summarizing discussions, testimony, analysis, and information or other actions on significant events taking place in the previous calendar year (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that this act shall take effect immediately upon passage (Sec. 2).
