Vote to pass a bill that requires students to obtain school credit in the arts in order to graduate.

Highlights:

 

  • Extends enrollment priority in charter schools to (Sec. 2.3):

    • Siblings that begin school in the same academic year; and

    • No more than 15 percent of the school’s total enrollment, children of full-time charter school employees and workers that work full-time in a charter school.

  • Requires students from grades 6-12 to fulfill one required credit in arts education, beginning with students entering 6th grade in 2022 (Sec. 2.5).

  • Establishes a program to develop advanced teaching roles and organizational models that link performance & professional growth to salary increases in select administrative units (Sec. 2.6).

  • Appropriates $1.5 million to the Department of Health and Human Services to provide a grant to NC MedAssist in order to offset increased costs for prescription assistance to uninsured and indigent individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic (Sec. 4B.2).

  • Establishes the Conservation Grant Fund to stimulate the use of conservation easements, improve the capacity of private nonprofit land trust organizations and increase landowner participation in land and water conservation (Sec. 7.4).

  • Establishes that this bill takes effect on July 1, 2020 (Sec. 22.4).
