Title: Expands Ballot Receipt and Election Deadlines

A vote to pass a bill that expands ballot receipt and election deadlines.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires polling places to adhere to the following conditions (Chap71): 

    • Tables, chairs, lights, booths, and other necessary items;

    • Voting and registration instructions;

    • A voter’s bill of rights with the following requirements:

      • Date of election and hours polling stations are open;

      • Sample ballots for voter review;

      • Instructions and examples for all the types of voters;

      • Explanation of all voter and privacy rights;

    • Voting by mail information posters; and 

    • Mail-in ballot forms. 

  • Requires the Secretary of State to prepare and provide a mail information poster that describes and promotes voting by mail and must deliver required copies (Chap 71).

  • Requires the Secretary of State to provide overseas ballots to eligible voters (Chap 71).

  • Prohibits any individual from wearing political gear and specifies that anyone guilty of this will not be permitted on the premises and can return vote only after removal of political gear (Chap 71).

  • Specifies that State will be liable and shall reimburse the costs used by government entities for compliance with above requirements (Chap 71).

  • Specifies that it is against the law for anyone except the voter can open, mark, inspect, or seal the mail in ballot (Chap 71). 

  • Specifies that a person may be fined and imprisoned and may lose their right to vote if voter attempts to vote fraudulently (Chap 71).
