Vote to pass a bill that expands the list of contraband in state, county, or juvenile correctional or detention facilities to include certain cannabis-related substances, cellphones and other portable communication devices, and vapor-generating electronic devices.

Highlights:

 

  • Expands the list of prohibited items on the grounds of state correctional institutions, county detention facilities, juvenile detention facilities, juvenile commitment programs, and facilities operated by the Department of Children and Families (DCF), and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) to include (Sec 1):

    • Marijunana, hemp, or industrial hemp;

    • Cell phones or other unapproved portable communication devices; and

    • Any vapor-generating electronic devices.

  • Specifies that introducing marijuana, hemp, or industrial hemp into state correctional institutions, county detention facilities, and facilities operated by the DCF and the APD is a third-degree felony (Sec 1).

  • Specifies that introducing marijuana, hemp, or industrial hemp into juvenile detention facilities or commitment programs is a second-degree felony (Sec 4).

  • Specifies that introducing a cellphone, unapproved portable communication device, or a vapor-generating electronic device into any of the aforementioned facilities is a first-degree misdemeanor (Sec 1).
