Vote to adopt a conference report that establishes the Louisiana Police Funding Protection Act.

Highlights:

• Requires each Louisiana state governing authority, including a municipal police department or sheriff’s office, to notify the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget of an imminent decrease of greater than 10 percent in funding, as compared to the current fiscal year, for the municipal police department or sheriff’s office in the ensuing budget, no later than 15 days prior to the start of the new fiscal year (Sec 1).

• Authorizes the Legislative Committee on the Budget to require the governing authority to explain and justify the reduction in funding for said department and the effect that reduction may have on public safety (Sec 1).

• Authorizes the Committee to deem the governing authority ineligible for receipt of sales tax dedications or funding for new capital outlay projects for the ensuing fiscal year if the Committee determines such reductions will have a substantially harmful effect on public safety (Sec 1).
