Vote to pass a bill that authorizes three weeks paid parental leave for state employees and local Board of Education members after the birth, fostering, or adoption of a child.

Highlights:

 

  • Defines an ‘eligible employee’ as (Sec. 1): 

    • An individual classified as full-time by the state employing entity; or 

    • An individual classified as full-time by the local board of education

  • Defines a ‘qualifying life event’ as (Sec. 1):

    •  The birth of a child of an eligible employee;

    •  The placement of a minor child for adoption with an eligible employee; or

    • The placement of a minor child for foster care with an eligible employee.

  • Specifies that employees are eligible for paid parental leave for qualifying life events after six months of continuous work at their place of employment, for a minimum of 700 hours (Sec. 1).

  • Limits the maximum amount of parental leave that an eligible employee can take in a year to 120 hours, regardless of how many qualifying life events occur in that year (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that parental leave does not have to be taken in a block and may be taken as needed (Sec. 1).
