Vote to pass a bill that expands financial aid for undocumented immigrants pursuing higher education.

Highlights:

 

  • Specifies that the following individuals are eligible for in-state tuition regardless of citizenship or immigration status (Sec. 1): 

    • A student who attended highschool in the Commonwealth for at least 2 years and graduated from public, private or homeschool;  

    • Passed a high school equivalency examination approved by the Secretary of Education on or after July 1, 2008; 

    • Demonstrates that if a dependent, that either one of their parents filed income taxes in the state of Virginia for at least two years; or

    • A student who is registered at a public or private institution of higher education in the state of virginia.

  • Specifies that the provisions of the act do not apply to students currently in Virginia with valid visas (Sec. 1).

  • Establishes that this act shall take effect August 1, 2022 (Sec. 2).
