Vote to pass a bill that prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system.

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including (Sec. 2):

    • Public accommodations and facilities;

    • The jury system.

  • Specifies that failure to follow the aforementioned provisions violates the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution (Sec. 2). 

  • Expands the definition of public accommodations in the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include places or establishments that provide (Sec. 3):

    • Exhibitions, recreation, exercise, amusement, gatherings, or displays;

    • Goods, services, or programs; or 

    • Transportation services.

  • Authorizes the Attorney General and Department of Justice to intervene in equal protection actions in federal court on account of sexual orientation or gender identity (Sec. 5).

  • Prohibits an individual from being denied access to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room, and a dressing room, that is in accordance with the individual's gender identity (Sec. 9).

  • Amends the definition of discrimination and segregation in the 1964 Civil Rights Act to specify that sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity are among the prohibited categories (Sec. 11).
