Title: Rescinds Election Day Voter Registration

Vote to pass a bill that rescinds election day voter registration.

Highlights:

 

  • Requires election administrators in the state of Montana to close regular voter registration 30 days before any election (Sec. 1).

  • Allows registered voters to change their voting information up until noon before an election day (Sec. 2).

  • Allows any registered elector to challenge the right to vote off another elector if the challenged elector (Sec. 3):

    • Is of unsound mind, as determined by a court;

    • has voted before in that election;

    • has been convicted of a felony and is serving a sentence in a penal institution;

    • is not registered as required by law;

    • is not 18 years of age or older;

    • has not been, for at least 30 days, a resident of the county in which the elector is offering to vote;

    • is a provisionally registered elector whose status has not been changed to a legally registered voter; or

    • does not meet another requirement provided in the constitution or by law.

  • Requires ballots to be mailed no sooner than the 20th day before an election and no later than 15 days before any election (Sec. 4).

  • Requires ballots to be mailed back no later than Noon on the day before the election (Sec. 4).
