Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that requires the Department of Labor address workplace violence in health care, social service, and other sectors.

Highlights:

• Requires the Secretary of Labor to issue a comprehensive interim standard workplace violence prevention plan to certain employers in the healthcare and social service sectors and other, similar sectors no later than one year after this act's enactment date (Title I, Sec. 101).

• Specifies that the workplace violence prevention plan shall, at minimum, be based on the Guidelines for Preventing Workplace Violence for Healthcare and Social Service Workers published by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the Department of Labor (Title I, Sec. 101).

• Specifies that the interim final standard workplace violence protection plan shall remain in effect until the final standard plan becomes effective 2 years after this act's enactment date (Title I, Sec. 101).

• Requires that the final comprehensive workplace violence protection plan guidelines adopted by OSHA provide no less protection than the standards implemented by a state plan (Title I, Sec. 101).
