Title: National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act

  • Establishes the “National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the US Capitol Complex” within the legislative branch (Sec. 2).

  • Requires the Commission to do the following in order to improve the security of the US Capitol complex, including (Sec. 3):

    • Conduct an investigation of the relevant facts and circumstances relating to the attack on the capitol;

    • Identify, review, and evaluate the causes of and the lessons learned from this attack; and

    • Submit specifies reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations to improve the detection, prevention, preparedness for, and responses to targeted violence and domestic terrorism.

  • Authorizes the Commission to hold hearings, receive evidence, and issue subpoenas while investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol (Sec. 6).

  • Requires the Commission to be composed of the following members, including (Sec. 5):

    • One member appointed jointly by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Majority leader of the Senate to serve as chairperson;

    • One member appointed jointly by the minority leader of the House of Representatives and the minority leader of the Senate;

    • 2 members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives;

    • 2 members appointed minority leader of the House of Representatives;

    • 2 members appointed by the majority leader of the Senate; and

    • 2 members appointed by the minority leader of the Senate.
