Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that repeals certain requirements for district board members at polling places.

Highlights:

• Amends the poll worker requirements of needing 4-6 district board members at each station to only needing no less than 2 for the June 8, 2021 primary election due to continued concerns surrounding COVID-19 (Sec. 2).

• Repeals the requirement that distinct board members be residents of the county in which that member is serving (Sec. 2).

• Authorizes non citizens that are not registered voters but are otherwise qualified to serve as a district board member to serve as poll workers for a primary election (Sec. 2).

• Repeals the provision requiring a polling place be located within 1,000 feet of a district boundary line if no suitable polling place that is accessible to individuals with disabilities and the elderly exists (Sec. 2).

• Authorizes each district board member to receive $200 in compensation for a full day worked at a polling station and $100 for a full shift worked (Sec. 2).

• Appropriates $1.7 million from the general fund for the purpose of activating and deploying the New Jersey National Guard troops who assisted with the 2020 primary and general election (Sec. 4).
