Vote to pass a bill that would allow religious organizations who provide social services to apply for and receive federal funding, and provides $13.3 billion in tax breaks for charitable giving over a ten year period

Highlights:

• Stipulates that religious organizations who provide social services are eligible to receive federal funds and compete on the same terms as non-religious organizations.

• Grants up to $25 in deductions to individuals and $50 to couples who submit non-itemized tax returns.

• Raises cap on deductible corporate charitable donations from 10 to 15 percent by the year 2010.

• Allows individuals over 70 ½-years old to make tax-free charitable donations from their IRAs.
