Title: Requires Public Schools Teach Cursive Handwriting
Vote to pass a bill that requires public schools teach cursive handwriting in their school curriculum in order to receive state funding.
Requires the state superintendent of public instruction to incorporate cursive writing into the model academic standards for English language arts (Sec. 1).
Establishes that if the contract is for the operation of a charter school that includes the elementary grades, a requirement that the charter school's curriculum include cursive writing (Sec. 2).
Establishes that if the private school operates elementary grades, a requirement that the private school's curriculum include cursive writing (Sec. 4).
Requires the academic objective for pupils to be able to write legibly in cursive by the end of grade 5 be included in a language arts curriculum plan by July 1, 2022 (Sec. 6).
