Title: Authorizes the Distribution of Opioid Antagonists
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the distribution of opioid antagonists used to treat opioid overdoses.
Authorizes the Chief Medical Officer in the Department of Health and Human Services to issue a standing order, that does not identify any patients, for all of the following purposes (Sec. 1, Pg. 1):
For a pharmacist to dispense opioid antagonists (overdose treatment drugs) to an individual; and
For a community-based organization or staff member to distribute opioid antagonists to an individual.
Authorizes pharmacists and community-based organizations to provide opioid antagonists to an individual in accordance with the above-issued standing order (Sec. 1, Pg. 1).
Specifies that community-based organization means any public or private organization that provides health and human services to meet the needs of a community (Sec. 1, Pg. 2).
Specifies that neither pharmacists nor community-based organizations and the Chief Medical Officer are liable for a civil action as a result of damages caused by the dispensing or administering of an opioid antagonist (Sec. 1, Pgs. 1 & 2).
Authorizes the Department of health and Human Services to adopt rules for the enforcement of this act in consultation with local departments of health (Sec. 1, Pg. 2).
Specifies that this act takes immediately upon passage and approval (Sec. 1, Pg. 2).
