Title: Reduces Insulin Copays; Authorizes Non-Prescription Purchase of Ketone Blood Testing Kits
Vote to pass a bill that reduces insulin copays and authorizes the non-prescription purchase of ketone blood testing kits.
Requires every health care plan to cover at least one type of insulin from each of the following categories (Article 59):
Rapid-acting;
Short-acting;
Intermediate-acting;
Long-acting;
Pre-mixed insulin products;
Pre-mixed insulin/GLP-1 RA products; and
Concentrated human regular insulin.
Authorizes insurance companies to ensure that cost-sharing a 30-day supply of a covered prescription insulin drug does not exceed $35 (Article. 59).
Specifies that this is regardless of how much insulin it takes to fill this prescription (Article 59).
Authorizes insurance companies to ensure that cost-sharing 30-day supply of covered device(s) does not exceed $100 (Article 59).
Specifies that this is regardless of if the person is prescribed more than one device (Article 59).
Requires all health care providers to provide coverage for the following devices:
Blood glucose monitors, monitor supplies, insulin, injection aids, syringes (Article 59):
Insulin infusion devices;
Pharmacological agents for controlling blood sugar; and
Orthotics.
Requires insurers to provide coverage for diabetic self-management education (Article 59).
Requires insurance companies to provide an appeals process for those unable to take one or more of the prescription insulin noted (Article 59).
Specifies that to obtain a blood testing kit for ketones a prescription is not required (Article 59).
